Cold Laser Therapy

Low level Laser Therapy is a painless, noninvasive drug free treatment utilizing the MedX Phototherapy , which is primarily used to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) as well as other conditions and pathologies.

Healing with the use of light is not new. The development of the laser and its special properties using light as a treatment has gained so much popularity. Low Level lasers supply energy to the body in form of non-thermal photons of light, which are transmitted through the skin’s layers. When lower level laser light waves penetrate deeply into the skin they optimize the immune responses of the blood thus having both anti- inflammatory and immunostimulate effects. Unlike surgical lasers, LLLT does not produce heat or damage muscle tissue. The light from the laser is absorbed by special cellular components within the body to produce its beneficial effects.

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the tendons or ligaments in the wrist become enlarged often from inflammation after being aggravated. Symptoms range from a burning, and tingling, numbness in the fingers, especially the thumb and the index fingers, to difficulty gripping or making a fist to dropping things. Some cases of CTS are due to work related cumulative trauma of the wrist.

Treatment for CTS was previously limited to wrist splints, anti-inflammatory drugs, cortisone injections and surgery. With the innovation of the Med X laser patients now have a non-invasive painless alternative, which provides longer lasting effects. In year 2002, Med X cold laser received FDA clearance for the treatment on management of CTS. The treatment helps to reduce inflammation and stimulates nerve function. Med x is insurance reimbursable and is backed by over 12 years of clinical research. Treatment with the MED X laser consists of at least 15-20 sessions administered at least three times a week. Each session is approximately half an hour and is compromised of laser treatment along with physical therapy.
